Fairy tales and contemporary satire collide in Ella Enchanted, based upon the enormously popular young adult novel by Gail Carson Levine. Ella (Anne Hathaway, The Princess Diaries) received an unfortunate fairy gift in her cradle: No matter what anyone tells her to do, she's compelled to obey. Despite this, Ella grows up to be a headstrong young woman who refuses to swoon at the sight of a charming young prince (Hugh Dancy). To get her gift removed, Ella braves a forest packed with ogres, elves, and giants to find her fairy godmother (Vivica A. Fox, Kill Bill, Vol. 1). Much like Shrek, Ella Enchanted is sprinkled with comic modern references; for some, this will make the whimsy too cute, while others will appreciate the snarky jabs. This movie was fun to watch, and has plenty of enjoyable music. The only real similarity to the book of the same name was the basic premise and the characters' names, but taken as a completely separate work, this was pretty well done.
Anne Hathaway was a convincing, strong, willful heroine, and her singing voice is pleasant. The choreography on the dance numbers is both skillful and amusing.

I've watched this movie with my little sister and we both really enjoyed it. It's really funny, at least it had us laughing. I didn't realized it's based on a book but everyone does have their own opinions so I cannot say everyone watch it because it's so great but at the same time I cannot say don't watch it because it was such a well-made movie.
Such a pure & fun movie for the whole family.
I've also made my guy friend watch it, TRUST ME, he doesn't like all that fluffy, flowery, girly type of stuff...but he admitted that this movie wasn't so bad...funny for a macho-macho guy eh? :D

| This has almost no redeeming aspects except for the fact that Anne Hathaway is a FABULOUS actress and she makes almost everything at least a teeny bit better. This does the book NO justice whatsoever, and the "Medieval Teen" really pushed it over the edge for me. Disney went too over the top trying to make this a cutesy fairy tale and so they "cutesy"ed it up way too much. And all the good songs they ruined by singing and dancing to them? Not worth it.
