As a global blackout lengthens into months, the neighbors of Oak Hollow grapple with a chilling realization: the power may never return. Survival has become a lifestyle. | Real page-turner Mar 30, 2007 |
| Terry Blackstock's first part, Last Light was very good. BUT, part 2, Night Light, is a flip-flip-flip page turner. There is no fowl language. I can't wait to read parts 3 & 4. | | | | Could you survive? Mar 27, 2007 |
The blackout story continues in the second book in the Restoration series. The town is beginning to adapt to an lifestyle without electricity. It is like living in the middle ages again, with the people having to discover new ways to survive. The Banning family has managed to create a semi-comfortable life in this new world. They have food, will soon have water, shelter, and most importantly each other. However not everyone has it this lucky, as the reader is introduced to a group of siblings trying to fend for themselves without their mother. The two groups clash with a battle about what it takes to truly survive in this new world.
Reading about the filth that the children had to live in made me really uncomfortable at times. It's really amazing how we take just a working toilet for granted. This book pretty much explains survival of the fittest. Only the people who lived in communities where there was some sense of order was able to live a semi-normal life while others were forced in extreme poverty and disarray. At times I sided with the children because they were just trying to survive, but then I'd side with the Bannings because they had worked hard for their food and didn't deserve for it to get stolen. It was really scary reading about how people will take advantage of others in desperate times, even children just to get food or other supplies. Aaron, even though sometimes his actions were wrong, had the right intentions for his siblings, putting his family first before everything. I felt that was such a parallel to Deni in the first book, she put everything but her family as her primary focus. The only thing I found irksome is that everyone forgives each other really quickly even for doing terrible things to them. I just felt it a little unreal in such a time like that. Other than that, this was another thrilling read, another deep thinker of a book. Looking forward to when the next book comes out. | | | | Terri does it again! Mar 8, 2007 |
| Having been "in the dark" following Hurricane Rita, I really identified with the story line. I didn't think Terri could top the first one in the series. Wrong! There are a lot of life-lessons to be learned through the series. Frighteningly realistic, extremely eye-opening, and the great story line continues. Well done! (We have even used some of the tips to prepare for our next "in the dark" experience) | | | | Even better than the first one Dec 28, 2006 |
The first book in this series is so good, I wasn't sure how Terri Blackstock could top it. But she did. She really managed to flesh out some of the characters a little more, and give us some real insight into their personalities, hopes, and dreams. I like the way she's making the character Deni grow up right before our eyes. She's becoming someone I'd like to know instead of someone I'd like to throttle, like in the first book... LOL
The part of the story surrounding the four children was even emotionally difficult to read because of the realism. (But don't let that stop you!) The older brother is another character she fleshed out quite well.
As always, I would recommend any book by Terri Blackstock. If you're looking for realistic adventure/drama that is clean and edifying to read, she's your author. I appreciate the way she always weaves in some strong spiritual growth into her character's lives. I'm looking forward to future books in this series! | | | | incredible book Dec 11, 2006 |
| This is the book to buy! I loved it. Terri Blackstock has always been one of my favorite authors and can't put her books down once I've started. Also, I love how she always manages to weave in the spiritual side, that trusting in God is the only way to go. This is one of my favorites! | | | Write your own review about Bktrax-Disc-Night Light (Unabridged)
