Item Description... Overview After Thelma and Wayne Owens, the no-nonsense hosts of a Christian halfway home for ex-convicts and derelicts, are found murdered in their warehouse church, suspicion is cast on the Owens' daughter's husband and on two former residents.
Publishers Description Mystery and suspense combine in this first book of an exciting new 4-book series by best-selling author Terri BlackstockThelma and Wayne Owens run a bed and breakfast in Cape Refuge, Georgia. They minister to the seamen on the nearby docks and prisoners just out of nearby jails, holding services in an old warehouse and taking many of the 'down-and-outers' into their home. They have two daughters: the dutiful Morgan who is married to Jonathan, a fisherman, and helps them out at the B & B, and Blair, the still-single town librarian, who would be beautiful if it weren’t for the serious scar on the side of her face. After a heated, public argument with his in-laws, Jonathan discovers Thelma and Wayne murdered in the warehouse where they held their church services. Considered the prime suspect, Jonathan is arrested. Grief-stricken, Morgan and Blair launch their own investigation to help Matthew Cade, the town’s young police chief, find the real killer. Shady characters and a raft of suspects keep the plot twisting and the suspense building as we learn not only who murdered Thelma and Wayne, but also the secrets about their family’s past and the true reason for Blair’s disfigurement. |

 | Marvelous Reading-Cape Refuge Mar 23, 2007 |
| I enjoyed this book so much and will read the rest of Terri Blackstock's books just to see if they are all this good. | | | | Christian mystery Nov 9, 2006 |
| It's so nice to find an author who doesn't have evryone jumping in bed with everyone else and the language was very pleasing to the ear--no profanity. | | | | Too much preaching Jun 6, 2006 |
| There really should be a disclaimer on the back of this book; the description given doesn't prepare the reader for the incessant preaching. What could have been a decent mystery is totally ruined by the insertion of religion in nearly every sentence. If Ms. Blackstock wants her books to reach a wider audience then she needs to tone it down a lot. If she's satisfied with "preaching to the choir" then she's done the job well because these books will never be successful out in the real world. | | | | The Cape Refuge Series May 10, 2006 |
When I find out about a good series, I try to read them in order but it's time consuming to find the order in which they're written. So, I'm going to provide that for anyone else who's interested. Read the Cape Refuge Series in this order:
Cape Refuge Southern Storm Rivers Edge Breaker's Reef
This is an excellent series of stories following characters you'll soon realize you care deeply about. Truly an enjoyable experience.
| | | | Another great start to Christian suspense series Mar 27, 2006 |
| Cape Refuge by Terri Blackstock is the first in the self-titled series. Blackstock is a wonderful Christian suspense author, and I'm currently working my way through all of her writings. (Books 2-4 in the series are in the very tall stack of books by my bed) Sometimes the stories can be a bit formulaic, but her message of salvation makes her work rise above the rest. Morgan and Blair Owens are devastated by the brutal murders of their parents and determined to find the killer. When Morgan's husband, Jonathan, is arrested for the murders, the women have to overcome their differences and work together to save not only Jonathan, but the legacy their parents had created in the town. If you like Tami Hoag or Julie Garwood's contemporary thrillers, you'll definitely enjoy Terri Blackstock. My one complaint is Blair. For someone whose life is in danger, she certainly takes a lot of lonely walks. I was ready to shake her by the end of the book, and I hope that her character becomes more sympathetic in the second book. | | | Write your own review about Cape Refuge (Cape Refuge V1)
