Item Description... Overview Whether it is social injustice, AIDS, bad preaching, or wrecked marriages, what breaks the heart of someone who loves God most likely breaks God?s heart too?and it is often these ?firestorms of frustration? that God will use to enlist you in setting what is wrong in this world right!
Publishers Description What is the one aspect of this broken world that, when you see it, touch it, get near it, you just can't stand? Very likely, that firestorm of frustration reflects your holy discontent, a reality so troubling that you are thrust off the couch and into the game. It's during these defining times when your eyes open to the needs surrounding you and your heart hungers to respond that you hear God say, 'I feel the same way about this problem. Now, let's go solve it together 'Bill Hybels invites you to consider the dramatic impact your life will have when you allow your holy discontent to fuel instead of frustrate you. Using examples from the Bible, his own life, and the experiences of others, Hybels shows how you can find and feed your personal area of holy discontent, fight for it when things get risky, and follow it when it takes a mid-course turn. As you live from the energy of your holy discontent, you'll fulfill your role in setting what is wrong in this world right |

 | Fuelling Your Inner Fire Dec 9, 2009 |
The natural response to a fire is for people to try to put it out. That's the wrong approach when the "fire" is something that you find really irritating, according to Bill Hybels in this short book. Instead of putting out the fire, you should pour fuel on it until it ignites your personal vision, a firestorm of frustration, which catalyses fierce determination to set things right.
The book starts with a good question: What is it that motivates people to work where they work, volunteer their time to the groups they serve, and donate money to the causes they support? Hybels answers the question by saying that the most inspired, motivated and driven people he knows are the ones who live their lives from the energy of their "holy discontent". That is, they focus their energies on trying to fix the thing which most irritates them.
According to the book, you first need to find your "one thing", the thing which you are most passionate about. You then need to develop your "holy discontent" by feeding the frustration, then you need to be willing to take the risks and summon the necessary resources to fight for your "holy discontent", and then you need to be willing to follow wherever your "holy discontent" might lead you. | | | | Invest in purchasing it. Read it. Study it. Immediately apply it to your life! Exceptional! Mar 25, 2009 |
I heard about this book through a friend who offered me bits and pieces of its content - which immediately caught my attention.
If you are a person or in a place in your life floundering your life's true purpose, this book is for you. If you are a person in a successful career or living the good life, and feel something is seriously missing - this book is for you. If you are a person who is struggling with who you are or why your life is taking a spiral downturn, this book is for you. "Holy Discontent" will offer you an opportunity to look at who you are, why you were specifically created in the time and space you are currently living in - and poke at your heart for what your personal "Holy Discontent" is.
The book is an easy read (as far as ease of reading a page goes), though is an exceptional book to help you really evaluate who you are and what your purpose it. Hybels offers real life examples and gives the book's reader an opportunity to learn from others' paths and passions - hopefully to support your journey to become all you were intended to be.
If you're ready to take your life to the next level, are sick of where you are currently at, or ready to be all you were created to be - this is the book that can support your journey.
Here's to your personal, Holy Discontent... Bev | | | | This book made me discontent Feb 1, 2009 |
Is there something that frustrates you? An injustice in this world that you cannot stand? If so, there is a way to turn that discontent into a holy passion that can change the world. At least that's the idea behind Bill Hybels' book Holy Discontent.
The book draws on personal experiences from Hybels' life, examples of people who have followed their discontent, and various other anecdotes to illustrate the author's point. Hybels gives steps to follow, like most books of this genre, which at times doesn't help because the steps don't fit neatly into his theory. There are some inspiring stories in the book, though, and I feel as if Hybels would have benefited from drawing more of his material from them.
There is a little bit of substance, but not much. Hybels has some pretty insightful comments about fear, frustration, and action, though those small nuggets of wisdom are too sporadic to warrant purchasing this book. The premise of this book is good. I just feel that Hybels failed to deliver. | | | | Good book. Oct 2, 2008 |
| Good stories of people finding what they were discontent with, pursuing it, and making a difference around them. Not as much application as I would like to have seen however. | | | | It Only Takes a Spark Sep 23, 2008 |
| When it comes to articulating a passion, few do it better than Bill Hybels. It was with anticipation that I ordered Holy Discontent - I needed to hear someone like Hybels both give me direction and inspire me to fuel the fire. The book is a good combination of personal stories from Bill's life, stories and teachings from Scripture, and stories of some of my favorite characters - Bono, Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King Jr., Bob Pierce. I read through the book quickly, mostly because I was very eager to find out what Hybel's was suggesting. I'm planning on reading it through again more slowly in order to absorb and reflect on what my Holy Discontent is, and how to take action on it. | | | Write your own review about Bktrax-Disc-Holy Discontent
