| I am a big fan of the NIV application commentaries, but this has to be one of the worst ones I have used. I recently did a series on Elijah and of all the commentaries I used on 1 & 2 Kings, this one had the least helpful and useful information, and the information it did have was very little. He made 1 Kings 17, 18 & 19 one chapter. So much goes on there, and this is one of the major stories in 1 Kings. | I found in this book some interesting and useful ideas how to illustrate episodes in books of 1 & 2 Kings. The NIV Application Commentary series has its own limits and peculiarities, because here authors deal more with ideas and less with text. | I proofread this for Zondervan, and it is a very solid effort. Multifaceted in Hebrew, ANE, archaeological, and theological coverage. Hard to chose between this, Paul House 1, 2 Kings/an Exegetical and Theological Exposition of Holy Scripture Niv Text (New American Commentary), and Iain Provan 1 and 2 Kings (for exposition). Konkel recently completed Job for the CBC series Cornerstone Biblical Commentary: Job, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs (Cornerstone Biblical Commentary) (Tyndale), and will author the forthcoming Chronicles, BCBC (Herald). | | | Write your own review about Commentary-1 & 2 Kings (NIV App Comm)
