Item Description...
Outline Fairy tales and contemporary satire collide in Ella Enchanted, based upon the enormously popular young adult novel by Gail Carson Levine. Ella (Anne Hathaway, The Princess Diaries) received an unfortunate fairy gift in her cradle: No matter what anyone tells her to do, she's compelled to obey. Despite this, Ella grows up to be a headstrong young woman who refuses to swoon at the sight of a charming young prince (Hugh Dancy). To get her gift removed, Ella braves a forest packed with ogres, elves, and giants to find her fairy godmother (Vivica A. Fox, Kill Bill, Vol. 1). Much like Shrek, Ella Enchanted is sprinkled with comic modern references; for some, this will make the whimsy too cute, while others will appreciate the snarky jabs. Also featuring Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride), Minnie Driver, Joanna Lumley, Eric Idle, and many others. --Bret Fetzer

Reviews - What do our customers think?
 | Haven't read the book but love the movie May 16, 2010 |
There are a number of reviews that mention how the movie does not follow the book. Well, I enjoy the movie without having read the book. This movie has a blend of Shrek and Princess Bride with a good mix of silliness of its own. It is a good family movie with no harsh language or political indoctrination like many of today's movies. Add to this one pretty Anne Hathaway who is always easy on the eye - and Ella Enchanted is a movie for all to enjoy.

| I read some of the one star reviews and most are dead on about the awful movie compared with the exquisite book. What all I read failed to note was that there seemed to be a systematic destruction of the value of the book's wonderful themes. In the book, Ella is one of the finest of heroines. She succeeds because of her excellent code of morality and her attempt to take hurt on herself to save the man she loves. The act is not sacrifice but strength of desire to do right for the things she values most: the prince and her own moral stature. Her step sister would cheerfully have done the opposite. The authors of the movie seemed to have had the values of the step sister as their model of excellence. To sum it up the book was like an excellent steak, a lot of very good meat and a little fat. The movie people trimmed off the fat, threw away the meat, then went to the garbage heaps of their own minds for more poisoness fat. NEVER expose children to this sewer of a movie. Expose them to the wonderful book. | | | | Ella Enchanted Jan 18, 2010 |
| This is one of my favorite movies. It is a chick flick that even my husband enjoyed, and it's kid friendly too. | | | | One of the worst book-to-movies I've ever seen Dec 31, 2009 |
Ugh. This gets second place in my list of worst book-to-movie translations, second only to Eragon. Ella Enchanted is a lovely book, but they absolutely ruined the story in the movie. For one thing, they added a bunch of modern elements, which seemed a little silly, but that wouldn't have been so bad if they'd kept the storyline the same. But no, they had to add a wicked uncle and a very corny, fake-looking talking snake. And even worse, they completely changed the climax. I don't want to give away what the climax is supposed to be (because I want you to read the book, of course!) but I'll just say it's much much deeper than what it was in the movie. So read the book! :) | | | | Great Anne Hathaway Movie ever!! Dec 10, 2009 |
| I must say that Anne is better in this movie than the other movies she has done as in both The Princess Diaries along with The Devil Wears Prada and her most recent one: Bride Wars. This movie is quite enchanting i never read the book but I enjoy movies like these just as any other person. The story falls on a girl named Ella whose fairy godmother places what she calls a "gift" yet more like a "curse" on poor innocent Ella yet as she grows up Ella's mother falls ill and sadly departs yet the movie revolves around Ella on the search after leaving her home in Frell along with her evil & quite demanding evil stepmother and her two step sisters to find her fairy godmother to lift the so called curse. Ella comes across all sorts of creatures from ogeres to giants and of course the valiant Prince Charmont. Yet she also falls under another sort of spell with the prince in which that is none other than: love. I highly recommd anyone who likes Anne Hathaway would very much enjoy watching this movie!! | | | Write your own review about Ella Enchanted [Blu-ray]
