Jesus Calling is a devotional book written by veteran missionary, Sarah Young. It started out as her personal daily journal - her thoughts of the personal nature of God's presence in her life. It includes a page for each day of the year with several Scripture passages for each day.
At first, I must admit, I was a bit skeptical of yet "another devotional book." This book, however, is written from the unique perspective of Jesus, Himself, speaking to the reader. When I read each day's entry written from this angle, combined with the Scriptures that were listed with it, I found myself more attentive to the familiar Bible verses that I was reading. This unique book has really encouraged me in my personal prayer life. It has reminded me of God's personal, never-ending love for me.
God used this excerpt from the April 30th entry on a day when I really needed it:
"When some basic need is lacking - time, energy, money - consider yourself blessed. Your very lack is an opportunity to latch onto Me in unabashed dependence...Awareness of your inadequacy is a rich blessing, training you to rely wholeheartedly on Me...Rejoice in your insufficiency, knowing that My Power is made perfect in weakness."

Jesus Calling is a day by day prayer journal by Sarah Young. She used to write her own journal but then one day decided to listen more carefully to the Lord and write what He spoke to her. In between these pages is what the missionary Sarah Young believes God is telling her.
I'm not exactly religious so this book didn't help me very much at all. Though I would recommend it to a friend because it seems like it would be very enlightening book to someone that is deeply religious.
