this album is great. i don't know what genre i'd put it under though. it's definitely hardcore but it's also pop-punk/hardcore. anyways, this whole album is awesome and the lyrics are great. if you listen to this album then see a pic of their screamer spencer, you wouldn't believe that's him. dude is like 5'5" and 140lbs. but he is awesome. i already owned the original version but i gladly paid for this album a second time for the bonus track AND the DVD documentary which was super. HARDCORRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEE.
Super amazing hardcore from the uber talented UNDEROATH! Apr 12, 2006
Ok so there is an obviously overwhelming surge of emo / hardcore / pop bands flooding the scene lately. And due to this flood of rather generic material, most bands have trouble finding their own definition or sound, simply because there's a real dry spell of originality. Underoath have taken their metalcore roots and extracted the energy and intensity as well as the heaviness, but added a much more poppy sound, which can be predictable, but is certainly welcomed when performed at this tier. Brilliant choruses, catchy without being predictable, and intense without being too hard: this band defines a good blend of hardcore and pop.
The CD is filled with heavy, pummeling guitars and riffs, with showered pop choruses and breakdowns. Perfect, honestly, for fans of hardcore who enjoy singing. Not to mention the guest vocals from Aaron of Copeland on the last track..
Flatly and plainly, if you like hardcore and pop together, you will love this disc, and probably worship Underoath for putting out exactly what you wanted to hear. And while it's not necessarily suprising how "They're Only Chasing Safety" sounds, it's certainly an amazing record, flat out.
Good Buy... Unless you own the original Feb 22, 2006
Is it me or are "You're So Intricate" and "The 80's Song" the same as "I'm Content With Losing" and "It's Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door", respectively?
The only new songs on here are "Smic Tague" and "I've Got 10 Friends and A Crowbar That Say You Ain't Gonna Do Jack".
Only buy this if you don't own the original. Or if you're completely obsessed with Underoath in a abnormal way, then you can buy it.
However, It's a great album, and if you're a fan of the screamo genre you'll enjoy them.
yeah, what the other guy said. Feb 1, 2006
i wound up hearing the song "dangerous leaving your front door", and i thought okay, cool band. but i couldn't quite place what sounded so familur about them, then i was strangely tempted to listen to blink 182. and it hit. these guys are nothing but jack sh$t rip off wanna bees. being inspired is fine. but uh looking at someone else, and seeing that as an opratunity to make it, no matter what intensions, you suck!!!!!! forget underoath. and gee that reminds me, what is up with all these little gay teenie boppers coming out with records that are peices of crud lately? i just don't get it. oh yeah that reminds me, one last, thing. death to coheed and exist. peace!! find some real music!! right on! rock on! rock and roll is being destoyed, but at least there are few and far between that still at least can be soothful. find them, find them now!!!
